Professional Background
How Sofia Got Here
Sofia's journey into life coaching started personal. Back in 2009, she watched her own parents struggle with retirement—not the financial side, but the identity side. Who are you when your career ends? What's next? She realized that traditional therapy didn't really address those questions.
So she finished her Master's in Psychology at Universidade de Lisboa and then pursued her ICF-accredited life coaching certification through the Portuguese Institute of Coaching. What she discovered over the next 14 years was this: the second chapter of life isn't a decline. It's an inflection point. A chance to redesign.
Working directly with over 800 clients in Lisboa and Porto, Sofia identified the patterns that show up again and again. Career identity crises. Anxiety about aging. The pressure to have it "figured out" by 45. Relationship shifts. Health concerns. And underneath it all—a question nobody talks about enough: What do I actually want now that I'm not trying to prove anything?
That hands-on experience led her to Kalvora Lda, where she translates years of one-on-one coaching into accessible, researched content. Her work has been featured in Portuguese wellness publications, and she's delivered workshops on midlife transitions to corporate groups at companies like Galp and EDP. She doesn't believe in generic advice. Every transition is different because every person is different.

Her Approach
What Sofia Believes About Life After 45
You're Not Broken
The restlessness, the questions, the feeling that something needs to shift—that's not a problem. That's a signal. Sofia helps you understand what it's telling you and what to do about it. The anxiety you're feeling isn't pathology. It's information.
Culture Doesn't Get Your Transition
Media and society celebrate the 20-something reinvention. But the midlife reinvention? That gets way less attention. Sofia's work is grounded in the specific reality of being over 45 in Portugal—with the cultural context, the career expectations, the family dynamics, the health considerations. Generic advice doesn't cut it.
You've Got Time, and That Changes Everything
If you're 47, you potentially have 40+ years ahead of you. That's not a countdown. That's a canvas. Sofia helps you see the time you have left not as something to squeeze value out of, but as something to design intentionally.
Evidence Matters, But So Does Your Gut
Sofia's approach combines psychology research, coaching frameworks, and real-world experience from 800+ clients. But she also trusts what you already know about yourself. The goal isn't to follow someone else's blueprint. It's to build yours.
Common Questions
Questions People Ask Sofia
What makes midlife transitions different from other life changes?
It's the combination of factors. You're dealing with career identity, health awareness, relationship shifts, aging parents, maybe adult kids, and a fundamental reassessment of what matters. Plus, there's this cultural message that you should have it figured out by now—which makes the questions feel even heavier. Sofia's coaching addresses all of those layers, not just one or two.
Is life coaching the same as therapy?
Not quite. Therapy often looks at what happened in your past and how it shaped you. Coaching looks at where you are now and where you want to go. Sofia uses some psychology principles, but the focus is forward-facing—identifying what's keeping you stuck and building a concrete plan to move through it. Some people do both, and that works great too.
How long does it take to feel different after coaching?
That depends on where you're starting and what you're working on. Some people feel clarity and relief after the first conversation. Others need a few months of consistent work to really feel the shift. Sofia typically works with clients over 3-6 months, though some continue longer. The key is that you're actively building new patterns, not just talking about problems.
Can you really "reinvent" yourself at 50 or 55?
Absolutely. Actually, reinvention is often easier at 50 than it was at 25. You've got self-knowledge, you're clearer about priorities, you probably care less what other people think, and you've already survived real challenges. What changes isn't your ability to reinvent—it's your permission to. Sofia helps people claim that permission and build something real.
What if I don't know what I want?
That's actually where most people start. The "not knowing" is normal and doesn't mean you're lost. Sofia's process helps you get curious about what you're actually drawn to—not what you think you should want, but what genuinely interests you. Usually that clarity emerges pretty quickly once you stop trying to force an answer.
Is this relevant if I'm not planning to retire?
Completely. Pre-retirement coaching isn't just about the day you stop working. It's about building a life where work fits into your values instead of dominating them. Sofia works with clients who are redefining their relationship with work, shifting careers, moving toward semi-retirement, or simply wanting their 50s and 60s to look different from their 40s.
